Max Sadler, Running Coach

Science-Driven Training. Sustainable Performance.

I'm a 2:38 marathoner (Eugene, 2024), former Grand Valley State University cross country and track athlete, and member of the 2008 NCAA Division II Nationals team. I was once the fastest Sadler in the family—until Chris came along and stole my thunder.

I hold a B.S. in Biomedical Science from Grand Valley State University and an M.Sc. in Human Anatomy from the University of Cape Town, where my 2014 thesis examined variations in tibialis posterior muscle insertions and their relationship to the structure of the medial longitudinal arch. I also spent five years working in specialty running retail at Running Fit and Striders, gaining valuable experience helping runners find the right gear for their goals.

My coaching approach combines an understanding of human anatomy and physiology with the practical experience of being a competitive runner. I build training plans around how the body adapts to training stress, develops fitness, and—just as importantly—breaks down. I've also had the opportunity to coach Chris Sadler through his first marathons, so I've seen firsthand what it takes to turn training into race-day performance.

My philosophy is simple: 90% fit and 100% healthy beats 100% fit and broken. The goal isn't just to get you in shape for your next race. It's to help you train consistently, stay healthy, and build the fitness to perform your best over the long term.
